Tomás originally learned to play flamenco guitar from his father, whose teaching instilled in Tomás a respect for flamenco as well as an understanding that, in true artisan tradition, his playing should communicate the true meaning of each piece without using superfluous effects.
Tomás has performed as a soloist in his native Spain at many prestigious flamenco festivals and in the UK has played at many venues, including The Queen Elizabeth Hall, The Brighton Festival and at the Royal Albert Hall Lunchtime Concerts.
His repertoire is based on the traditions of the home of flamenco, Andalucía, but reflects also the music’s Arabic, Gypsy and South American influences. His set for Festival of the Artisan will range from the gentle and romantic to the energetic pieces for which flamenco is so well-known.
‘He is a flamenco guitarist of tremendous passion and virtuosity. Tomás Jiménez is his guitar. He lives and breathes it.’
